Event Information For TriAmerica Avon-Vail

Race Venue:

This will be a point to point race with the swim taking place at Nottingham Lake in Avon, CO. The race will finish at Vail Village, Vail, CO. The distance between the start and finish is 11 miles. A free shuttle service will be offered for both athletes and spectators on race morning.

TriAmerica Avon-Vail is a point to point race and as a result, requires two separate transition areas. Transition #1 in located at Nottingham Park in Avon and transition #2 is located in the Ford Park Parking lot in Vail Village.

BIKE & GEAR PRE-STAGING

Participants are encouraged to pre-stage their bikes at the Avon transition area on Saturday between 11:00 am and 7:00 pm. For safety reasons, you are not allowed to cover your entire bike. You may only wrap or cover your seat and/or bicycle computer. You must have your bike number affixed to your bike before it is allowed in the transition area. You will have full access to your bike on race morning. There will be OVERNIGHT SECURITY IN BOTH TRANSITION AREAS.

Transition two is located in the paved parking lot at Ford Park in Vail Village. The bike racks will be individually labeled for each athlete. Athletes will be allowed to pre-stage their run gear on Saturday from 4:00pm to 7:00pm. You can also place your gear in your designated transition zone on race morning. It is up to each individual athlete to bring your run gear to the second transition area prior to the start of the race. Overnight security will be provided.

Athletes will be provided two numbered gear bags at registration. One will be for your warm-up gear and the other will be for your wetsuit and swim gear. The warm-up bag is for your warm-up clothes and other personal items you would like brough to transition #2. You will turn these bags in prior to the race start. they will be collected at a U-Haul truck located in close proximity to the transition area. The second bag is for your wetsuit and other swim gear. It is important that you place all of your swim gear in the bags and draw the string tight. These bags will be gathered following the swim and will be transported up to the Ford Park transition area for you to reclaim following the race. All gear not placed in bags will be gathered up and placed in lost and found. We are not responsible for any gear left behind and not placed in your numbered bag. The swim transition area will be struck immediately following the conclusion of the swim. You do not need to return to Avon following the race to reclaim your swim gear, all gear bags will be transported to transition #2 to be reclaimed.

PARKING & TRANSPORTATION

Suggested parking in Vail will be the Vail Village Parking structure located west of Ford Park. This is the closest parking structure to the both the second transition area and the finish line. Parking in Avon will be in the existing parking lots adjacent to the park. There is no parking available at Ford Park in Vail.

A race morning shuttle service is being offered for participants and spectators. Busses will run from Ford Park in Vail to the Avon Recreation Center. The busses will start running at 4:45am and the service will continue until 8:00am in order to accommodate spectators that wish to travel back from the start in Avon to the finish line area. Please note that bikes will not be allowed on the shuttle busses.

No post race shuttle service will be provided by the race, only a pre-race shuttle is being provided. Athletes should utilize the existing transportation system in the Vail Valley. Additional shuttle information will be available at check-in.

COURSE INFORMATION

Swim - The swim takes place in Nottingham Lake in Avon, CO. The course features a time trial start and will be one loop for the sprint course athletes and two loops for the International distance athletes. Wetsuit use is suggested as the water temperature will be in the mid-low 60's. Both races will utilize a time trial type start with the International distance athletes starting first. Once all International distance swimmers complete their first lap, the Sprint distance athletes will start. The time between individual athlete starts will be 3-5 seconds. Athletes will start in race number order, from low to high.

Bike - The bike course is a point to point course that starts out from Nottingham Park in Avon, CO. The bike course ends at Ford Park adjacent to Vail Village. Athletes will bike directly to Ford Park. Sprint course athletes will go into the transition area while long course participants will continue beyond Ford Park to the designated turnaround point at East Vail Pass. After the turnaround point, long course cyclists return to Ford Park and the bike to run transition. MAPS

Run - The 5K run course is a very scenic course that showcases the Vail Valley. The finish line is located in the center of Vail Village. International distance athletes will complete two loops of the 5K course. The finish line is located approximately .4 mile from the Ford Park and the second transition area. MAPS
